OKLAHOMA

AI Receptionist for Oklahoma Businesses

Yes, an Oklahoma business can use an AI receptionist. Oklahoma lets a call be recorded with one party’s consent, but its Telephone Solicitation Act, in force since 1 November 2022, needs written consent before automated sales calls or texts. Awava keeps texting consent-based and still announces recording, along with missed-call text back and review requests. The AI Receptionist is included in AI Pro ($1,997 setup plus $397 a month), or $97 a month added to the Website or Core plan.

THE RULES

What Oklahoma law means for an AI front desk.

The three rules that shape how an AI receptionist is set up in Oklahoma, each with the statute it comes from.

RECORDING CALLS

One-party consent

Oklahoma is a one-party consent state: recording a call is lawful when you are a party to it or one party has given prior consent, unless it is done to commit a crime. Awava still tells callers when calls are recorded, because your callers may be in all-party states, and because callers prefer knowing.

13 O.S. § 176.4

SALES CALLS AND TEXTS

The Oklahoma Telephone Solicitation Act

Since 1 November 2022, an automated or recorded sales call in Oklahoma needs the called person’s prior express written consent, and that consent has to cover calls, texts or voicemails. Sales calls are barred before 8 a.m. and after 8 p.m. in the recipient’s time zone, and limited to three in 24 hours on the same subject.

15 O.S. §§ 775C.1 to 775C.6

FEDERAL

AI voices and the federal rules

On 8 February 2024 the FCC ruled that AI-generated voices count as “artificial” under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, so calls a business places with an AI voice need the called person’s prior express consent. That ruling is about calls you place. An AI receptionist answers calls people place to you, and Awava does not use it to dial lists.

HOW AWAVA SETS IT UP

Built around the rules from the first call.

Awava installs the AI receptionist, connects it to your number and manages it for you. These are the defaults for Oklahoma businesses. How the AI Receptionist works

  • When calls are recorded, the greeting says so, even though Oklahoma only needs one party’s consent.
  • The AI receptionist answers calls people place to you. It does not make automated sales calls.
  • Missed-call text back answers someone who just called you, and replying STOP ends the texts.
  • Promotional texts go only to customers who gave written consent, never before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m.
  • If a caller asks, the AI says it is an AI and offers to have you call back.
